Celebrating Earth Day with Harvester Coffee Company

At Harvester Coffee, we believe that sustainability isn’t just about how we brew coffee—it’s also about which coffee we choose to roast. That’s why we’re proud to work with producers in Tarrazú, Costa Rica—a region known not only for its exceptional quality but also for its commitment to environmentally conscious farming.

This Earth Day, we’re spotlighting two standout coffees from Tarrazú: Monge Black Honey and Castillo Super Natural. Both are grown at high altitudes (1,750–2,000 MASL), processed with care, and roasted by us in small batches to bring out their unique character.

🌱 Why Tarrazú?

Tarrazú’s rich volcanic soil, steady climate, and high elevation make it a dream for coffee cultivation. But it’s the producers’ deep respect for the land that truly sets it apart. Many farms practice shade-growing, water-efficient processing, and even organic fertilization, all of which align with our values as a roaster.

These aren’t just good farming practices—they’re steps toward a more sustainable and ethical coffee industry.

☕ Monge Black Honey
Producer: Roylin Monge
Process: Black Honey
Variety: Red & Yellow Catuai
Tasting Notes: Toasted pecans, brown sugar, honey, jasmine

This coffee is a beautiful example of the Black Honey process, where some of the coffee’s sticky mucilage is left on during drying—leading to a sweet, syrupy body and delicate floral aromatics. We roast it to highlight its nutty richness and silky sweetness, perfect for pour-over or Aeropress.

☕ Castillo Super Natural
Producer: Franklin Castillo
Process: Super Natural
Variety: Red & Yellow Catuai
Tasting Notes: Cherry, chocolate, honey, cocoa

Super Natural processing takes the full cherry and allows it to dry slowly, intensifying fruit-forward notes. This cup is bold, sweet, and layered, with vibrant cherry up front and a deep cocoa finish. Try it as espresso or filter—it shines in both.

🌍 Earth Day at Harvester: What We Stand For

➤ Sustainability Starts at Origin
The journey from farm to cup has a big impact. That’s why we choose to work with producers who focus on eco-conscious practices and responsible land management. Supporting these farms means supporting cleaner soil, healthier ecosystems, and better futures for coffee-growing communities.

➤ Fair Prices Matter
We believe in fair compensation for every hand that touches our coffee. Beyond certifications like Fairtrade, we work to ensure that our producers receive prices above market value, helping them reinvest in their farms and communities.

➤ Organic & Shade-Grown Options
Whenever possible, we prioritize coffees that are either organically grown or shade-grown. These methods protect biodiversity, reduce chemical runoff, and preserve habitats for birds and insects—while producing outstanding coffee.

➤ Know the Story of Your Coffee
Every bag we roast comes with a story. Whether it's the small-scale precision of Roylin Monge or the innovation of Franklin Castillo, we want you to know exactly where your coffee comes from—and feel confident that it was grown with care for both people and planet.
